How to Apply
Application Procedure
 Candidates can apply online only. There is no provision for offline submission of application forms. Please read the detailed instructions before starting the registration process.

Online Registration Process
The Online Registration process requires the candidate to first register on this website with a userid and password. His/Her userid and password confirmation will be sent to the applicant by E-mail intimation.

The online application process is divided into eight sections, for convenience, as follows.


  • Section 1: Personal Information
  • Section 2: Address Details
  • Section 3: Some Important Details
  • Section 4: Payment Details
  • Section 5: A. CAT Examination Details
  • Section 5: B. Qualifying Exam Details (Already Obtained/ In progress)
  • Section 5: C. Degrees (Including 10+2 and not Qualifying degree)
  • Section 5: D. Work Experience details
  • Section 5: E. Applied Institute or Admitted Institute Details
  • Section 6: Answer the questions in the space provided(Not more than 100 Words each)
  • Section 7: Upload Photograph
  • Section 8: Final submission

Photograph: A recent passport size clear front facial photograph (Size 3 cm x 4 cm) of the candidate. To upload your Photograph use Browse button to select the  .jpg or .png file and press Submit. The file should not be more than 20KB.The uploads of photograph is not mandatory you may paste also the photograph in pdf application.

The candidate has to enter the mandatory fields denoted by * in each section for filling the application.Once the candidate is satisfied about the correctness of the information filled in, the candidate can confirm it by pressing the confirm button. No changes can be made after confirmation.

Please Fill up the application within 60 minutes, which is the time limit for one session. If there is a session out then system will not generate a unique reference number on submission, which implies your application is not saved.

On confirmation, the website will allot a unique Reference Number to the candidate.  The Reference Number will be required for any future communication with IIT Kanpur. The application will be identified solely by this number.

After confirmation, the candidate may take a printout of his/her full application which will be displayed in .pdf format and the status of the application is "Submitted".

After completing the online application form, a candidate must:

  • Take a print out of the online application form
  • If photograph is not loaded,then write reference number at the back of the self attested passport size photograph and paste it on the application form and sign the form
  • The application fee of Rs. 1600 for the General and OBC applicants, Rs. 800 for those belonging to SC/ST and Physically Deficient categories must be paid through demand draft payable to 'Registrar IIT Kanpur' payable at Kanpur (attach in original).
  • Ensure that the complete signed form together with the demand draft reach us by Thursday, 2 February 2017.

Candidates short-listed for GD/PI process will be informed by Friday, 17 February 2017. All GD/PI short-listed candidates should be bring a photocopy of their application form along with the following when they come for GD/PI. Please mention application reference number on each document:

  1. High School (10th ) Mark sheet and Certificate (Required for all Candidates)
  2. Intermediate (12th ) Mark sheet and Certificate (Required for all Candidates)
  3. Qualifying Degree Mark sheet's and Provisional / Final engineering degree(Required for all Candidates)
  4. CAT Score card (Required for all Candidates)
  5. SC/ST/OBC Certificate if applicable
  6. Certificate of Physical Status if applicable(Type of disability to be attached)
  7. All Work Experience Certificates to be submitted at the time of admission (For employed candidates)
  8. No Objection/relieving Certificate from Employer to be submitted at the time of admission (For employed candidates)

Application Acceptance Process
Only after the Application Form along with demand draft are received by department, the status of the application changes to "Applied". You may be able to see the changed status of your application by Saturday, 4 February 2017 on MBA online portal.
